Spirits of the night are bringing out their burlesque best. It’s All Hallow’s Eve in the Hauptstadt! As many Berliners once again powder their faces ghostly white and smear themselves with fake blood, you have the spooktacular opportunity to break the mold. For a more irreverent and intense approach to the evening, you’d be wise to get your tricks and treats at Legendary Elliween tonight.The Kreuzberg cocktail bar Prinzipal hosts this bloody good party for Halloween horrors and cabaret antics, including a haunted burlesque show full of undead DJs and mind-blowing makeup. Dress up and drink it in. This is one monster mash you don’t want to miss.
Für alle, die das Festival verpasst haben oder erst richtig auf den Geschmack gekommen sind, empfiehlt Marlene von Steenvag die Partyreihen „Bohème Sauvage“ im Stil der 20er Jahre und die „Fête Fatale“ mit 70er-Jahre-Charme und viel Burlesque. Außerdem gibt es regelmäßig Burlesque in der Zirkusbar „Zum starken August“ in Prenzlauer Berg (Schönhauser Allee 56) und im „Prinzipal“ in Kreuzberg (Oranienstraße 178). „Mittlerweile hat sich die Aufmerksamkeit international sehr auf Berlin gerichtet“, sagt sie. Doch Burlesque, was ist das eigentlich? Steenvag sagt: „Die Burlesque ist eine Form von Entertainment mit Elementen des Striptease, ein kunstvolles Entblättern als Folie der Unterhaltung.“
After a short layover in Frankfurt I landed in Berlin to colder temperatures than I was expecting. In my delirium from traveling, I walked passed the baggage claim and forgot to pick up my suit case. In Berlin, if you walk out of the baggage claim area, you can’t go back in and get your luggage. My only option was to go to Lost and Found and wait 2 hours for them to retrieve my luggage. Luckily, a man I had briefly met in the Frankfurt airport was just about to walk out and I asked him if he could grab my suitcase. What a life saver! Luckily, that was not an indication of how my Berlin trip was going to go.
“Welcome to an evening of divine imbibing and decadence,” said the emcee from a compact, elevated stage in the back of the narrow, crowded bar in Berlin. He wore red-and-black striped pants and had fringes on his jacket’s epaulets, and he introduced Roxy Diamond, a Swiss expat who, working down from a flouncy dress to full burlesque regalia (which is to say minimal regalia), strutted, shimmied and gleefully evoked catcalls.

From fine cocktails to punk bars, burlesque shows to after-hours artistic haunts, Kreuzberg remains one of the most diverse areas in Berlin. Located right in the heart of Kreuzberg on Oranienstraße, Prinzipal nevertheless feels like a secret discovery. Entry is through an unmarked door with a buzzer and once inside, you will find a long bar and corseted bar staff waiting to fix you one of their fine cocktails inspired by Burlesque dancers. Try ‘A Date with Dita’, made with bourbon, grapefruit, lemon, dates and bitters, best drunk in front of one of this speakeasy’s acclaimed Burlesque shows.
